Collective for Change

It’s time to transform the way we handle risk. After achieving excellent results with our evidence-based clinical risk management system (CRM) at Stanford Health Care, Stanford Children’s Health, and Stanford School of Medicine, we at The Risk Authority Stanford (TRA Stanford) believe our system can provide an innovative roadmap to protect against loss, create new avenues of value, and most importantly, reduce patient harm and save lives.

To verify that our success can be translated to medical facilities outside the Stanford University Medical Network, we’re leading a two-year collaborative to implement and study our system in medical facilities across the United States of America and the United Kingdom, sponsored by Aon and Lockton UK.

TRA Stanford’s proprietary CRM System consists of four cornerstones

Together with our participants, partners and sponsors, we will explore and combine proven processes with cutting edge analytics, the duty of candour, and innovative thinking. It is our hope that this study will take clinical risk management to new heights of success and bring health systems ever closer to our collective vision of perfect patient care and zero preventable harm.

To lead, protect, and deliver on the promise of health care by practicing transparency, openness, accountability, and justice – in short, the duty of candour.

The International Organization for Standardization’s established risk management framework, ISO 31000, provides a way to consistently and systematically identify, assess, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor risk.

Intertwining quantitative methods and predictive analytics into the ISO risk management framework at every step of the process gives us the ability to make high-quality decisions in uncertain situations.

The infusion of design thinking into the risk management framework provides us with a foundation for both conceptualizing creative work and reaching for innovative, human-centered solutions.
